John Glenn Road dedication ceremony scheduled for Sept. 29th

APPLE VALLEY, Calif – September 25, 2018: A ceremony to dedicate the completion of improvements to John Glenn Road will be held on Sept. 29 at 8:30 a.m.

The festivities are planned to take place at the intersection of John Glenn Road and Outer Highway 18 prior to the 10 a.m. kick-off of the Fourth Annual Happy Trails Parade and Street Fair.

The John Glenn Road improvements were completed through a public private partnership between the Town of Apple Valley and the Village Property and Business Improvement District (PBID).

The nearly $500,000 project included rebuilding the street from Powhatan Road to Outer Highway 18, and the installation of curb, gutter and sidewalk along the east side of the road. The completed project gives commuters, residents, and local business owners improved access to Apple Valley’s historic downtown district.

“By pledging $250,000, the PBID was able to match half of the project’s total costs and ultimately meet the desires of our business and property owners for improved access in the area,” said PBID Chairman Jack Collingsworth. “The completion of the project is a testament of our prioritization to their concerns and a promise of our continued commitment.”

The Town has allocated Local Transportation Funds for additional right-of-way improvements that will create an ADA accessible path along Outer Highway 18 South, Powhatan Road and John Glenn Road as part of the project. Upon completion, the Town will accept John Glenn Road into its street system and provide future maintenance.
