Jam-Packed Activities Planned For Adelanto Residents in December

ADELANTO — Adelanto residents should use the month of November to get some rest, because there is a jam-packed schedule of activities planned for the month of December.

Starting with the “Handlebars for Christmas Giveaway,” students enrolled in Adelanto School District grades kindergarten through eighth will have the opportunity to win one of several new bicycles.

Parents who send their kids to school with a non-perishable/non-expired item of canned or boxed food, their student will receive a Golden Ticket to enter into a drawing for a new bicycle. Each day that a student brings a food donation they will receive a separate ticket. The last day for donations and to receive a ticket is November 17. Winners will be notified on November 30 and bikes will be distributed at the December 14 City Council.

Shortly after the close of the bicycle giveaway contest the city will hold its annual Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony at City Hall on December 2 starting at 6:30 p.m. and ending at 8:30.

Soon after, the city will launch its first annual “Christmas Decorating Contest” to find the best decorated homes. This contest, set for December 9 & 10 is open to all residents of Adelanto who will compete for a grand prize of $500.00 and their name entered on a perpetual trophy; the winner from several categories will be awarded $150.00 and a certificate. Those selected for honorable mention will receive $30 each. The prize winners will be decided by December 12 and all winners will be posted on the City’s Official Website.

The 12th Annual Christmas Parade will kick-off December 10 at 10 a.m. at Seneca and Aster Roads and ending at Desert Trails Elementary School on Bellflower. Congressman Paul Cook will serve as Grand Marshal.

The last activity before the Christmas break will be the grand opening of the Pryke Dog Park inside of Richardson Park at City Hall on December 17 from 9:00 a.m. until 12 noon. A community barbeque will take place along with a community resource fair.
These community activities are taking place early because City Hall and city services will be closed except for emergencies from December 19 through January 3, 2017.
