BIG BEAR LAKE, Calif. (VVNG.com) — A major milestone has been reached in the highly anticipated hatching of Jackie and Shadow’s eggs, as a confirmed “pip” signals that at least one eaglet has begun emerging, according to Friends of Big Bear Valley and the Big Bear Eagle Nest Cam.
“We have a PIP!” the organization announced in a Facebook post on Friday, April 3, 2026.
According to the update, vocal signs of progress began earlier. “Yesterday afternoon, evening and throughout the night we heard little chirps coming from the chick,” the post stated. “This indicates that the chick was able to break the internal membrane and took its first breath of air.”
By Friday, visual confirmation followed. “Today we spotted an apparent pip (breach in the eggshell) and hatching is in the works,” according to the post. “You can see a bit of the shell popping out on the top of the egg on the right.”
A pip refers to the first small crack or hole made in the eggshell as the chick begins the hatching process, marking a critical step toward emergence.
Organizers noted that while the process is underway, it will take time before the chick fully emerges. “It can take 24 to 48 hours after the initial pip for a complete hatch,” the post stated.
The moment has drawn widespread attention from viewers who have been closely following the nest via the live camera, with anticipation building over the past several days during “pip watch.”
“It’s getting egg-citing!! Thank you for being with us on this amazing journey!” the Friends of Big Bear Valley team added.
