
VICTORVILLE, Calif. (VVNG.com) — An inmate at a Victorville prison was found dead in his cell early Sunday morning, officials said.
Prison staff at the Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) I discovered inmate Lorenzo Robertson, 40, unresponsive in his cell on September 9, 2018, at about 2:00 am.
“Staff immediately called for assistance and began life-saving measures. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) were requested, arrived, and continued lifesaving efforts,” according to a statement from Bureau of Prisons spokesperson Jess Pino.
Robertson was subsequently transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead at approximately 3:45 a.m., by hospital staff.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation and United States Marshals Service were notified and the incident is being investigated.
According to Pino, Robertson was serving a 70-month sentence with 3 years supervision for Conspiracy to Distribute and Possess with Intent to Distribute Heroin.
“He was sentenced in the Eastern District of Texas and arrived at FCI Victorville I on August 1, 2018,” Pino said.
The statement did not specify how Robertson died.
FCI Victorville I is a medium security facility within the Federal Correction Complex in Victorville, CA, that currently houses 1,323 male offenders.
