Ice Cream Truck Driver Shoots at Suspects With Their Own Gun

VICTORVILLE-(VVNG.com): On Tuesday, July 28, 2015 at approximately 5:40 P.M. ,dispatch received a report that an armed robbery had just occurred at Liberty Park, located at 13016 Amethyst Rd in Victorville.

According to Sheriff’s Department Spokesman Sgt. Dave Burgess, the report stated that two black male juveniles brandished a gun attempting to rob an ice cream truck at the park.

“The ice cream truck driver was able to grab the weapon to disarm them,” said Sgt. Burgess.

When the ice cream truck driver grabbed the silver Smith and Wesson revolver he shot twice toward the suspects. Deputies including both ground and air units were on scene within minutes of the report to dispatch. The two suspects fled through yards from Amethyst Road toward Angelica Way. One was detained, but was released once he was determined to be uninvolved.

Both suspects are still at large at this time. “No one was hit that we know of, there were no reports of injuries and no patients with gunshot wounds at local hospitals,” added Burgess.

The weapon was recovered from the ice cream truck driver and determined to be reported as stolen out of Tacoma, Washington. If anyone has any information relating to this incident they are asked to contact the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, Victorville Station at 760-241-2911.
