I-15 freeway jammed in both directions due to heavy snowfall in the Cajon Pass

UPDATE @4:54 AM — Victorville CHP has shut down the southbound I-15 freeway at Ranchero Road due to vehicles getting stuck.

CAJON PASS, Calif. (VVNG.com) — The California Highway Patrol is continuing to escort traffic on the I-15 freeway as heavy snow continues to fall in the Cajon Pass.

At about 11:30 pm on Christmas night, CHP began running traffic breaks and escorts in both directions of the pass. At about 2:00 am heavy snowfall started to fall and stick near the 4000-foot level.

As of 4:20 am, both directions of the freeway remained open, however, traffic in both directions remained at a near stand-still as snowplows were forced to drive the wrong way on the freeway

Motorists on the northbound I-15 told VVNG they have been stuck near the middle of the pass for over 30 minutes. Southbound traffic is also at a complete stop from about Ranchero Road.

There are multiple vehicles currently stuck on the freeway and CHP is working with Caltrans and tow trucks to remove them.

CHP is planning on to turn traffic around on the NB 15 and highway 138.
