ADELANTO, Calif. (VVNG.com) — Incredible cell phone footage shows an impressive dust devil towering near the Southern California Logistics Airport here Tuesday.
Richard Hivner and his wife Devona were driving on Adelanto Road along the airport when they witnessed the incredible act of mother nature directly in front of them at about 4:00 pm. on July 24, 2018.
“We saw the dark dust and thought maybe it was a fire but didn’t see any firetrucks,” stated Richard. As the couple drove closer they quickly realized it was the largest dust devil they had ever seen in there 25 years of living in Adelanto.
Richard parked his vehicle and with his iPhone 8, he captured the most incredible video of a dust devil we’ve ever seen. His wife Devona was so excited she started doing the happy dance in front of what she was calling a tornado.
“It was huge, we saw all kinds of debris flying around it was crazy and exciting. I can see how storm chasers get hooked,” stated Devona in a Facebook comment.
Many people who watched the video questioned if this was a dust devil or a tornado. Victor Valley News reached out to the San Diego National Weather Service and they confirmed this was, in fact, a dust devil.
Dust devils are defined as a small whirlwind or air vortex over land, visible as a column of dust and debris.
