Homeless Shelter Breaks Ground for New Playground but Needs Your Help

VICTORVILLE-(VVNG.com):  High Desert Homeless Services Inc. located just south of Palmdale Road on Amargosa Road in Victorville, with the help of volunteers from Keller Williams Realty started the first phase in placing a new playground for the shelter children.

The Keller Williams Realty volunteers arrived at the shelter just before 8:00 A.M., ready to work on getting the cement removed from the old playground area.

The approximately 20 volunteers worked diligently to first break out the concrete with tools that were donated by Home Depot for the use during this project. The next step was clearing out the cement from the area, which they also took care of with the use of shovels, gloves, wheelbarrows and a large utility trailer.

Shelter Director, Jimmy worked alongside with a smile on his face, a smile likely because this was the beginning of what he had dreamt for the shelter children for a long time.

The shelter houses up to 55 people at a time, many of those people being children. The people who live at the shelters are provided with all of their needs during their stay,  The children at the shelter are provided with activities and special events throughout the year to make the experience as positive as can be for them. The shelter staff, the shelter board members and the clients are eager to have a nice new playground to help the children adjust to their temporary home.

Now that the concrete is gone, the next phase is necessary, that part is purchasing the new playground. The shelter staff has worked diligently on fundraisers and grants to assist in making the dream playground a reality. The funds are growing, but in order to meet the goal they are in need of the community’s help.
