Homeless and opioid workshop scheduled in the Town of Apple Valley on Jan 13th

APPLE VALLEY, Calif. — On Monday, Jan 13, the Town of Apple Valley will host the third High Desert Intervention Action Coalition workshop. Led by Mayor Pro Tempore Curt Emick, more than 40 stakeholders have attended previous events to discuss local homelessness issues, including its correlation with mental health and drug abuse, as well as strategies to address them.

“These meetings have shed light on what it will take to improve the homeless and drug related issues of our region,” said Mayor Pro Tempore Curt Emick. “Multiple cities are represented here as well as many local non-profits currently dealing with these issues. The mission here is really to bring everyone under one roof to discuss these problems and come up with solutions together.”

The Sheriff Department’s Homeless Outreach and Proactive Enforcement (H.O.P.E.) team has also joined with the county’s Behavioral Health staff to address the specific needs of the local homeless population.
