LAKE ARROWHEAD, Calif. — A 24-year-old Long Beach woman hiking with a group of friends on the Deep Creek Hot Springs Trail was hoist rescued after suffering a leg injury, officials said.
It happened on Friday, February 7, 2020, the group parked their vehicle on Highway 173 in the Lake Arrowhead area and begin their hike towards the hot springs.
The 24-year-old woman lost her footing and suffered a leg injury and was unable to hike back to her vehicle, officials said. t about 5:20 pm., a passing hiker contacted Ramsey and called 911 to get her help.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Aviation Unit, 40 King 3, was contacted for a search and rescue.
The victim and her friends were located on a narrow trail on an otherwise steep mountain-side that was inaccessible by vehicle, officials said.
The flight crew determined a hoist rescue was needed and was conducted during nighttime hours, requiring the crew to utilize night vision equipment.
A volunteer flight medic was lowered down from the helicopter and secured the patient into a rescue harness.
She was hoisted into the helicopter and then transported to Mountains Community Hospital for medical treatment.
