Hiker Lost Near Deep Creek Hot Springs for Over 9 Hours

APPLE VALLEY-(VVNG.com): On Monday, November 9, 2015 a male subject called dispatch at about 3:15 a.m. reporting that he was hiking near Deep Creek Hot Springs and he got lost since about 6:00 p.m. He was not sure where he left his vehicle, but he believed it was near Roundup Way. He reported that he had 30% of his cell phone battery left, no warm clothing and no food in his possession.
Deputies arrived on scene as well as a Sheriff’s Helicopter which located the man near Tujunga Road and Roundup Way approximately 50 feet from the roadway. Deputies shined their lights on the lost man in order to show him where the roadway was. The man walked out to the roadway and deputies helped the man locate his vehicle. There were no injuries reported as a result of this incident.
Hikers are reminded to always hike with another person or group of people. Also, remember to bring emergency food, warm clothing, water and it may also be a good idea to purchase a power bank for your cell phone for extra battery life.
