Hiker Finds Body in Victorville, No Foul Play Suspected

VICTORVILLE, Calif. (VVNG.com) Authorities are investigating after a hiker found the body of a man near Kemper Campbell Ranch Road Saturday afternoon.

On June 24th at about 5:20 p.m., a young man was exploring the rocky area above the Mojave River along Highway 18/D Street in Victorville when he heard a very loud buzzing sound.

“I started to walk closer towards the noise and began to smell a very foul odor,” the hiker named George told Victor Valley News.

The hiker called 911 and waited for San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Deputies with the Victorville station to arrive and led them to the scene.

George described the deceased as a Black male adult who appeared to be a transient and had been there for a few days.

Deputy J. Dean told Victor Valley News foul play is not suspected, “we will wait for the coroners to arrive and retrieve the body,” stated Dean.

Over the past several days the Victor Valley has been experiencing a heat wave bringing local temperatures to triple digits. At this time it’s unknown if the man died of natural causes or from heat exposure.

The San Bernardino Coroners office will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of death. The name of the deceased will be released pending notification of next of kin.
