Highway 18 Closed Following High Speed Pursuit

(VVNG.com)- On Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at approximately 1:45 p.m., a deputy of the Big Bear Sheriff’s Station patrolling the area of E. Shay Rd./N. Palamino Rd. in Baldwin Lake received an electronic automatic license plate reader notification of a possible stolen vehicle.

The vehicle is confirmed as a stolen 2014 silver Hyundai Elantra, occupied by three subjects. The driver failed to yield to an attempted vehicle stop, initiating a high speed pursuit. The driver continued down Highway 18 towards Lucerne Valley at speeds in excess of 80 miles per hour and crossing the double yellow line multiple times.

The driver lost control of the vehicle in front of the Mitsubishi Plant, causing it to roll over. Injuries were sustained by all three occupants of the stolen vehicle.

Highway 18 remained closed for 3-5 hours from Baldwin Lake to Lucerne in both directions. Down-bound traffic was turned around on Highway 18 at Delta Way. Motorists were advised to use Highway 330 through Highland or Highway 38 through Redlands for travel to and from the Big Bear area.

Investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Big Bear Sheriff’s Station at (909)866-0100.
