Apple Valley, Calif.–Twenty-one students from across the High Desert will be recognized at the High Desert Medical Explorers Post 7447 Graduation set for May 6 at 6 p.m. at the Academy for Academic Excellence.
Each honoree has completed a competitive job-shadowing opportunity with a local hospital.
This year’s graduates include students from Apple Valley High School, the Academy for Academic Excellence, Serrano High School and Sultana High School.
This career preparation program was established in 2015 under the direction of representatives from three partnering school districts and local health industry representatives, including Apple Valley Unified, Hesperia Unified, and Snowline Joint Unified School Districts, the Lewis Center, St. Mary Regional Medical Center, and Desert Valley Hospital.
The purpose of the program is to provide high school students with the opportunity to explore careers in health care, while gaining valuable skills and interactive experiences.
Participating students were required to complete a competitive application process, which included teacher recommendations and a panel interview at Desert Valley Hospital.
