HESPERIA, Calif. (VVNG.com) — A DUI and driver’s license checkpoint conducted by the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department’s Hesperia Station on March 13 resulted in two DUI arrests, 20 citations, and nine vehicle tows, according to a written statement from the department.
The checkpoint was held at the intersection of Main Street and Seventh Avenue in Hesperia.
According to the written statement, 1,270 vehicles passed through the checkpoint and 70 drivers were sent to a secondary inspection area.
Authorities said two drivers were arrested for driving under the influence. Deputies also issued 20 citations, including 13 for driving without a valid driver’s license. Nine vehicles were towed.
The checkpoint was conducted “to enhance public safety by identifying impaired drivers and ensuring motorists are properly licensed,” according to the written statement.
The Sheriff’s Department said impaired driving remains a serious public safety issue and noted that driving under the influence can include alcohol, certain prescription medications, over-the-counter drugs and illegal narcotics.
Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead by using a sober driver, rideshare service or other transportation if they plan to drink, according to the written statement.
For more information about DUI prevention and enforcement efforts, the department said the public may contact the Hesperia Sheriff’s Station.
