Hesperia Police To Conduct Friday DUI Patrol; Victorville Enforcement Continues Through Saturday

HESPERIA, Calif. (VVNG.com) — The Hesperia and Victorville police departments will deploy additional officers to look for impaired drivers beginning Friday, with Hesperia conducting a one-night patrol and Victorville continuing enforcement through Saturday.
The Hesperia Police Department will deploy officers from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. throughout the city looking for drivers suspected of driving under the influence.
“Impaired driving is preventable,” Traffic Cpl. Lafond said. “It’s a choice. If you’ve been drinking or have taken drugs that impair, make the right choice by finding a sober driver or alternate transportation to take you places.”
The Victorville Police Department will conduct DUI patrols from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. Friday and Saturday.
According to written statements, both departments reminded motorists that impairment is not limited to alcohol. Prescription medications and over-the-counter drugs may interfere with driving, and motorists should always follow directions for use and read warning labels before getting behind the wheel. While medicinal and recreational marijuana are legal in California, driving under the influence of marijuana remains illegal.
Both departments said drivers caught driving impaired and charged with a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, as well as a suspended driver’s license.
Funding for both DUI enforcement operations was provided by grants from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
