Hesperia man charged with domestic battery

HESPERIA, Calif. (VVNG.com) — A local man accused of choking a woman during an altercation is charged with domestic battery, officials said.

Joseph Johnston, 23, was arrested Thursday, January 16, 2020, at 12:43 am by officers who responded to a domestic disturbance in the 17000 block of Sycamore Street in Hesperia.

Officers determined Johnston was involved in a verbal argument with the victim which escalated into a physical altercation.

“Johnston reportedly pulled the victim’s hair and choked her,” sheriff’s officials said.

Johnston was arrested and booked at High Desert Detention Center for PC243(D) Battery With Seriously Bodily Injury.

According to booking logs, Johnston is currently being held without bail due to violating his Post Release Community Supervision. He is scheduled for preliminary arraignment in a Victorville courtroom on January 22, 2020.

Joseph has a lengthy criminal record. In July of 2018, he was charged with two felonies which included Assault By Means Of Force and Assault With a Deadly Weapon. He copped a plea deal and was convicted to two years in state prison with 92 days of credit conduct. He was released on probation in October. He was arrested again in June 2019 for violating his community supervision and was sentenced to an additional 60 days in county prison.
