HESPERIA-(VVNG.com): What does 7,500 pounds of candy look like? Ask 35-year-old Jesus Ibarra of Hesperia who was arrested on January 7th at about 11:00 a.m. after he attempted to sell the candy in bulk from his home on the 13000 block of Modesto Court.
The Victorville Police Department said that they were contacted by Excel Corporation, which is the West Coast distributor for the Mars Candy Company. Excel contracted with a trucking company to deliver candy that had not passed inspection, to a location in San Bernardino for destruction. Approximately 7500 pounds of candy was missing from the truck when it arrived at the destination.
Through investigation online advertisements were found on a Facebook sales group and Craigslist where the bulk candy was being sold. Detectives found the entire garage filled with about 30 racks of candy boxes all labeled with prices. The candy was positively identified using the serial numbers matched to those that were sent for destruction.
Ibarra was booked at High Desert Detention Center for receiving stolen property and taking cargo worth more than $950. His bail was set at $50,000, which he posted and was subsequently released Thursday night. No court appearances are scheduled at this time.
