HESPERIA-(VVNG.com): The Huntington Beach Police are asking for the public’s help to locate a woman who may have been involved in a scam cheating the Hesperia Girl Scouts out of their hard-earned end of the year party.
The girls decided to have their party at the beach since some have never been to the beach. On February 2, 2016, the Girl Scout troop leader inquired about a Huntington Beach vacation rental on Craigslist.
The troop leader exchanged emails and subsequently transferred money from the troop’s account to the alleged suspect account in order to secure the vacation rental. All contact from the suspect stopped once the payment was made.
The girl scouts had to cancel their trip due to this apparent theft of the funds meant for their party. People that were made aware of the theft have reached out to the Huntington Beach Police Department officials asking if they can help to give the girls the trip that they earned.
“The detective handling this case is working on getting the Troop some rooms during the same time they originally had scheduled (mid-June),” said Huntington Beach Police Department Officials on a Facebook post. “If anyone is interested in helping, please contact Detective Pham at APham@hbpd.org.”
Police would like to make contact with the person of interest in the photo. This woman was captured on bank surveillance attempting to make a transaction with the account the money was transferred to.
