HELENDALE-(VVNG.com): The murder of Helendale resident, 43-year-old Ronnie Senegal came as a shock to those that knew him as a kind and gentleman that would do anything to help anyone. The man responsible for his death, 37-year-old Brandon Todd appeared in court on Thursday morning for an arraignment hearing and denied all charges in connection with the Tuesday morning shooting death of Senegal.
On Tuesday, January 12th, the day started as usual for Helendale residents, the children went to school, some went to work and others began their day at home. Suddenly at about 10:00 a.m., several that lived in close proximity to the Lakeside Mini Mart heard shots ring out. Some witnessed the two men in what appeared to be a heated verbal dispute just before the shots were fired and some even saw Todd reached for a gun, shoot Senegal several times and flee the scene.
Dispatchers received numerous reports that a man was shot just outside the popular gas station and mini-mart located at 26800 Blue Water Road. Sheriff ground units as well as an air unit arrived on scene shortly after and located Todd at a home entering the garage of a home on Robin Lane. The suspect was detained without incident at about 11:45 a.m. and was transported to High Desert Detention Center. Senegal, who was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds was taken to Victor Valley Global Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries.
Todd, who was appointed a public defender on Thursday, faces charges of murder, assault with a firearm and possessing a dangerous weapon according to court records. He remains in the custody of the High Desert Detention Center. Bail is set at $1.9 million and is set to appear in court on Monday, January 25, 2016, for a pre-preliminary hearing.
