GoFundMe Launched for Augustin Martinez, Man Killed Near Aqueduct in Hesperia

HESPERIA, Calif. (VVNG.com) — A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to help lay to rest Augustin Martinez, a 40-year-old man, after his body was found on a trail near the California Aqueduct in Hesperia.
Deputies from the Hesperia Station responded to a medical aid call at about 6:14 a.m. on Sunday, November 9, 2025.
According to a written statement from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, the call came in after an unresponsive male was discovered on a trail near Muscatel Street, adjacent to the California Aqueduct.
When deputies arrived, they found the victim, later identified as Augustin Martinez, deceased. Investigators from the Sheriff’s Specialized Investigations Division – Homicide Detail responded and assumed the investigation, determining the case to be a murder under Penal Code 187.

The suspect has not been identified, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Martinez’s son, Roman Ramos, created a GoFundMe campaign titled “Support for Augustin’s Peaceful Rest”, asking the community for help covering funeral expenses following his father’s tragic death.
“Augustin was a vibrant soul, full of energy and charisma, with a deep love and talent for music. He touched many lives with his spirit and was taken from us far too soon,” Ramos wrote in the campaign description.
Veronica Marie, who identified herself as Martinez’s sister-in-law, shared a heartfelt public tribute on Facebook.
“Augustin Nick Martinez was a great person who didn’t deserve this. He never hurt anyone and always saw good in those who didn’t deserve it,” she wrote. “He was that type of person you could have a random convo [with]—I remember once we had a whole hour convo about just the stars. I’m so sorry brother-in-law.”
