GoFundMe And Softball Tournament Launched For Local Teacher Facing Leukemia

WRIGHTWOOD, Calif. (VVNG.com) — A softball tournament fundraiser is being organized in Wrightwood to support local substitute teacher and youth sports coach Cynthia Kidd, who is battling leukemia while caring for her five children.
According to information shared with VVNG by Casandra Quick Erskine, Kidd recently turned 40 and has spent years serving the High Desert community as a substitute teacher throughout the Victor, Hesperia, and Snowline school districts, while also coaching youth softball and volleyball teams.
Erskine, who created the GoFundMe campaign titled “Support Cynthia’s Fight Against Leukemia,” said Kidd is currently hospitalized and facing a difficult recovery.
“Cynthia has been my friend for 27 years, and in that time, she has touched countless lives as a youth sports coach, substitute teacher, and devoted mother of five,” Erskine wrote in the campaign description. “She’s always been the first to step up for others—whether cheering on her volleyball team or supporting students across the High Desert school districts.”

According to the fundraiser, Kidd was recently diagnosed with leukemia, although the exact type had not yet been confirmed at the time the campaign was created.
“She is currently in the hospital facing a long and uncertain road to recovery,” Erskine wrote. “As a single mom, Cynthia will be under the care of physicians and unable to work for at least the next couple of months.”
Erskine told VVNG that Kidd is now undergoing her second round of chemotherapy and is facing mounting financial and personal challenges while unable to work.

“She’s in a tough spot as she also needs a whole new roof before she can live back into her home with her children due to mold,” Erskine said.
In addition to the GoFundMe campaign, organizers are planning a community softball tournament fundraiser titled “Krush It for Kidd,” scheduled for Saturday, May 30, in Wrightwood.
The event will feature a team draw softball tournament, live DJ, and a 50/50 raffle. Organizers said sign-ups are expected to open soon.

The GoFundMe organizer said donations will help cover essential expenses including Kidd’s mortgage, utilities, monthly bills, and care for her children during treatment.
“Cynthia is a wonderful mom, a friend to all, the life of the party, and an inspiration to so many,” Erskine wrote. “Any support you can offer—whether through a donation or by sharing this fundraiser—will make a meaningful difference for Cynthia and her family as they navigate this difficult journey.”
