BARSTOW, Calif. (VVNG.com) — A major fiber cut involving Frontier Communications between Victorville and Adelanto has disrupted emergency and non-emergency communication services for multiple agencies, including the Barstow Police Department Dispatch Center, officials said Sunday morning.
According to a written statement from the Barstow Police Department, the incident is impacting both 9-1-1 and non-emergency phone lines. Due to the extent of the damage, Frontier is currently unable to reroute calls.
The outage appears to be affecting several areas across Southern California, with a heat map showing service disruptions extending from Victorville and Barstow through Los Angeles, Long Beach, and as far south as Oceanside.
As a temporary measure, individuals in Barstow who need emergency assistance are urged to call 760-678-2592 to reach the police dispatch center directly.
“We appreciate the public’s patience and understanding while this issue is being addressed,” the department stated.
Additionally, Fort Irwin officials confirmed that their dispatch lines are currently down, along with Barstow CHP and several San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department lines. In a message to the community, Fort Irwin stated, “There has been a Frontier fiber cut between Victorville and Adelanto that is impacting 911. Frontier is not able to reroute our calls due to the damage. Frontier is working on a fix and will keep you updated.”
Residents at Fort Irwin who require emergency services are advised to contact the Fort Irwin MP Non Emergency Number at 1 (760) 380-4444.
No estimated time of restoration has been provided. Residents are encouraged to share the alternate number with friends, family members, and neighbors who may be affected by the outage.
