Firefighters respond to multiple spot fires on SB I-15 in Cajon Pass

CAJON PASS, Calif. (VVNG.com) — Fire crews are fighting multiple spot fires started by a truck hauling a trailer in the cajon pass.

At about 11:46 am dispatch received reports of several small fires along the right shoulder of the southbound I-15, north of the escape ramp.

According to the logs, a truck was hauling a trailer and either debris or a flat tire from the trailer started the fires. Scanner traffic reported the truck exited the freeway and was out with officials.

The fire has been dubbed the “Box Car” incident.

Firefighters at the scene have reported 3-5 spot fires with the largest approximately 1/2 – 2 acres in size. As if 12:30 pm the forward rate of progress on the most southern fire had been stopped.

The no.4 lane down from the top of the pass to the runaway truck ramp will be closed for several hours.

A water-dropping aircraft was inbound to assist with firefighting efforts.

Per CHP logs, CHP will run breaks on the southbound side at Highway 395 and Ranchero Road.

This is a developing story and additional information will be updated as it becomes available.
