APPLE VALLEY, Calif. (VVNG.com) — Firefighters responded to a vegetation fire burning near the iconic Hilltop House in Apple Valley here Sunday.
At about 12:41 pm, fire crews were dispatched to the 20200 block of Highway 18 and located an active fire burning along the rocky hillside behind the Albertson’s shopping center.
With local temperatures in the Victor Valley in the mid 90’s and strong gusty winds, firefighters made an aggressive attack on the fire and kept it spreading into any nearby structures.
According to radio traffic reports, the fire was contained at 5-10 acres and the forward rate of spread had been stopped. Firefighters would remain on scene for several hours for mop up.
The official cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
