APPLE VALLEY, Calif. (VVNG.com) — A pedestrian is dead after being hit by a motorcycle Monday evening in Apple Valley, police said.
San Bernardino County Sheriffs Deputies said a female pedestrian was crossing in the road on Bear Valley Road near Algonquin just before 9 p.m. when she was struck by a black 1986 Harley-Davidson motorcyclist traveling eastbound.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, and the motorcyclist was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.
The rider was knocked off the motorcycle, and the motorcycle continued for nearly half-a-mile before it came to a stop just east of Pasco Road.
“I was next to her and watched her take her last breath before emergency response got there. The man driving his Harley laid next to her and was distraught. His arm was broke and he was in shock,” Shannon Holt wrote on a Victor Valley News post.
The investigation was ongoing, and road closures were in place between Mohawk and Navajo Roads, including the outer highways, while police investigated the scene.
