VICTORVILLE, Calif. (VVNG.com) — A fatal crash shut down a stretch of Hesperia Road early Saturday morning here in Victorville.
It happened just after 12:00 a.m., August 11, 2018, and involved two vehicles, a purple 2006 Toyota Scion TC and a 2001 Chevrolet Suburban.
San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Deputies, San Bernardino County Fire, and AMR responded to the crash site.
One person from inside the Scion was pronounced deceased on scene, and a second occupant was airlifted to a trauma center by a helicopter that landed on Hesperia Road.
The driver of the Suburban was transported by ground ambulance to a hospital with unknown injuries.
“We were just sitting in our yard after getting off work and we a heard loud screeching, and then a boom,” Matthew Mardon told Victor Valley News.
Mardon, who works across from where the accident occurred said the Scion was traveling northbound on Hesperia Road when it lost control and went into the southbound lanes.
“All you could hear is screeching tires from the Scion like he was sliding, he flew across all the lanes, spun out and ended up getting rear-ended by the Suburban that was going southbound,” Mardon said.
Due to the severely mangled Scion, authorities have not been able to confirm if there were any backseat passengers at this time.
Hesperia Road between Greentree Boulevard and Ottawa Road is expected to remain closed for at least 6 hours, according to San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Deputy Adam Hylin.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation and no further details are immediately available.
