UPDATE: 1/29 @8:10 PM- We’ve just received confirmation Steven has been located and is safely back home. According to family, a woman saw him walking along Wright Mountain Road and gave Steven a ride home.

“I’d like to thank everyone from the bottom of my heart! Getting the word out ultimately got him found and brought home,” stated Priscilla Papke.

At this time no further information is available. More details will be updated as they become available.

UPDATE: 1/29 @2:40 PM- Authorities have been searching extensively and following up on any potential sightings of the missing boy. As of yet, Steven has not been located. A Search And Rescue (SAR) Dog team has been called in to assist in the search.

They will begin searching the immediate area. Evergreen Road is closed between Park Drive and Pine Street.

More information will be updated as it becomes available.

HOW DO SAR DOGS WORK? All humans, alive or dead, constantly emit microscopic particles bearing human scent. Millions of these are airborne and are carried by the wind for considerable distances. The air scenting SAR dog is trained to locate the scent of any human in a specific search area. The dog is not restricted to the missing person’s track and can search long after the track is obliterated. Many air scenting search dogs are also trained in trailing/scent discrimination. source: (nasar.org)

WRIGHTWOOD:(VVNG.com)- A local family is searching frantically for their 12-year-old son. Police are asking for the public’s help in their search for the missing Wrightwood/Phelan boy.

According to Priscilla Papke, 12-year-old Steven Papke was last seen Thursday morning just before 9:00 a.m. in the town of Wrightwood.

“He missed his bus and then walked to his old daycare where he asked for a ride to school. They weren’t able to do that and told him to walk home. He hasn’t been seen since then,” stated Priscilla.

Steven is approximately five-feet, five-inches tall and weighs 150 pounds. He has sandy blond/light brown hair and brown eyes. Steven is not wearing his prescribed glasses. He was last seen wearing a red flannel shirt and black pants.

Family believes Steven might possibly be trying to get to Pinon Mesa Middle School in Phelan. This is out of character for him and he has never done this before.

A Sheriff’s helicopter is currently assisting with the search for the missing boy.

If you have any information on Papke’s whereabouts, call the Sheriff’s Department at (760) 868-1006 or (760) 927-8741.
