UPDATE: American Airlines Nationwide Ground Stop Lifted Following IT Outage

UPDATE — American Airlines nationwide ground stop lifted following IT outage.
FORT WORTH, Texas (VVNG.com) — The Federal Aviation Administration issued a nationwide ground stop for American Airlines flights Tuesday evening after the carrier experienced a widespread technical outage affecting its internal computer systems.
The ground stop, issued around 6:30 p.m. ET (3:30 p.m. PT), temporarily prevented all American Airlines departures across the United States while flights already in the air were allowed to continue safely to their destinations. The FAA said the action was taken at the airline’s request as it worked to resolve the technical issue.
American Airlines acknowledged the outage in a statement posted to its official X account, writing, “We’re aware of a technical issue and have engaged our IT team to address it asap. We’re sorry for any inconvenience.”
According to the FAA, the issue was related to the airline’s internal information technology systems and not to the National Airspace System itself. Passengers across multiple airports reported delays, canceled boarding, and difficulties accessing the airline’s website, mobile app, and airport check-in systems while technicians worked to restore service.
The outage affected American Airlines’ nationwide operations, with departures temporarily halted at airports throughout the country. Flights already airborne continued operating normally and were permitted to land safely.
Travelers with American Airlines reservations are encouraged to monitor the airline’s website or mobile app for updated flight information once systems are restored and to check directly with the airline regarding delays or rebooking options.
