Expansion of Maersk at the Hesperia Commerce Center will bring up to 500 new jobs for residents

HESPERIA, Calif. — On Wednesday, March 6, 2024, the City of Hesperia announced a significant milestone in its ongoing efforts to bolster economic growth and create job opportunities.

Maersk, a global logistics and container shipping leader, has chosen Hesperia as the site for its expansion, set to operate from the newly developed facility spanning over 1.2 million square feet of industrial space at the Hesperia Commerce Center located at 8140 Caliente Road—marking the fourth largest deal in terms of total square footage signed in the Inland Empire in 2023.

Once open and fully staffed, Maersk will be one of the largest private employers in the City, bringing up to 500 new employment opportunities for residents and reinforcing Hesperia’s standing as a magnet for thriving businesses.

“Maersk’s decision to invest in Hesperia reaffirms the City’s position as a prime destination for enterprises seeking growth and success, and we are grateful for their decision to operate in our community,” said Hesperia Mayor Larry Bird. “This expansion signifies economic progress, and we are committed to attracting businesses that offer quality jobs, ultimately reducing commute times and enhancing the lives of our residents.”

With the addition of several new tenants, the recent growth witnessed at the Hesperia Commerce Center further highlights the region’s appeal for businesses to grow and thrive in the Mojave River Valley.

Hesperia’s infrastructure, skilled workforce, and supportive business environment, along with its convenient access to major highways and ports, position it as an ideal choice for companies like Maersk looking to expand their footprint.

“We are delighted to continue Maersk’s global contract logistics expansion in 2024, marked by the inauguration of our new facility spanning 1,227,600 million square feet in Hesperia, CA. Through this expansion of our offering, we strengthen our position as a logistic integrator in the region by increasing our Southern California fulfillment footprint to close to 11 million square feet, but we also contribute to the local community by generating up to 500 jobs in fulfillment and warehousing.” Jason Walker, Head of Maersk Contract Logistics, Maersk North America.

Maersk’s addition to the Hesperia Commerce Center, alongside current tenants such as Modway Furniture, Peloton Exercise Equipment, and Fellowship Logistics, will bring the total occupied industrial space to approximately 3.2 million square feet.

Notably, 13 million square feet of industrial development throughout the City is currently complete or in Hesperia’s permitting and entitlement process.
