Emergency Preparedness Fair Rolls Back Into Town

APPLE VALLEY: Disaster can strike at any time. Be prepared for a flood, fire, major earthquake or other disaster by attending the Fifth Annual Shake, Rattle and Roll Out Emergency Preparedness Fair on April 12.

Thanks to the support of Walmart the event will feature “The Big Shaker,” a mobile trailer that simulates an 8.0 magnitude earthquake. Participants can feel and see what could happen to the unsecured items in a home.

Other presentations and event guests will teach visitors about:

  •  First aid & CPR
  •  Fire prevention
  •  Outdoor survival
  •  Water purification
  •  Emergency Utilities
  •  Disaster Restoration
  •  Emergency budgeting
  •  Emergency animal care
  •  Alternative fuel sources
  •  Gardening & food storage
  •  Dutch oven and solar cooking
  •  Using social media in an emergency
After watching a puppet show on being prepared, children will receive a back pack while supplies last, which they will then take to various vendors to fill with emergency supplies.

Attendees are encouraged to bring non-perishable food to benefit the Victor Valley Rescue Mission. Come and enjoy a free hot dog, see police and fire vehicles and speak to experts in emergency preparedness. The event is presented in conjunction with the Town of Apple Valley, Apple Valley Fire District, Apple Valley School District, San Bernardino County Sheriff and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which hosts the event at 15500 Tuscola Road in Apple Valley from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Parking and admission are free.
