Elderly woman purse snatched in Barstow, police search for suspect



BARSTOW, Calif. ( — Police are searching for a suspect wanted for snatching a purse from an elderly woman, officials said.

On July 09, 2018, at approximately 2:42 P.M., Barstow Police officers responded to a report of a strong-arm robbery that had just occurred in the 1900 block of East Main Street.

“The caller reported that a male subject had just stolen a female’s purse and was fleeing on foot running eastbound on Main Street. The caller described the suspect as a black male wearing a blue cap, grey shirt, and grey pants,” stated a news release.

Officers learned that the victim, a 68-year-old female, was attempting to get in her vehicle when the male suspect grabbed her purse and attempted to take it from her. The victim attempted to pull her purse back from the suspect but the suspect overpowered her and was able to pull her purse from her. The suspect then fled on foot eastbound on Main Street. Officers checked the area for the suspect but were not able to locate him.

Officers canvassed the area and were able to locate surveillance video of the suspect. The suspect is approximately 20-30 years old, 5’10” – 6’0″, 170-180 lbs., with black hair and beard.
