Driver killed in violent crash on Hesperia Road ID’d as Kainoa Kahai

VICTORVILLE, Calif. (VVNG.com) — The San Bernardino County Coroner’s office has identified a driver who died in a car crash Saturday as Kainoa Kahai, 28, of Victorville.

The fatal traffic collision involving a Scion TC and a Chevy Suburban was reported at 12:01 am, Saturday, August 11, 2018, in the 13000 block of Hesperia Road.

Through investigation, deputies determined the purple Scion was driving north on Hesperia Road and the SUV was driving south on Hesperia Road.

“The driver of the Scion lost control of the vehicle while navigating through the curves in the roadway, spun out into the oncoming southbound lanes of traffic on Hesperia Road and collided with the front of the Chevrolet, causing major damage to both vehicles,” stated a sheriff’s news release.

Kahai sustained major injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. His front-seat passenger was flown to an out of area trauma center and according to the family, he remained on life support as of Saturday afternoon.

The driver of the SUV suffered moderate injuries and was transported by ground ambulance to an out of the area trauma center.

The family of Kainoa has set up a Gofundme account to help with funeral costs, medical expenses for the passenger and to help Kainoa’s 8-year-old son KJ. People wanting to help can donate via the account In Memory of Kainoa.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Major Accident Investigation Team is investigating the incident. Anyone with information or anyone who may have witnessed the collision is asked to contact Deputy A. Hylin or Deputy J. Dean at the Victorville Police Station.
