The incident was reported at approximately 2:46 p.m. on May 3, 2026.
Initial California Highway Patrol logs indicated an unknown type of vehicle overturned, and a male occupant was thrown from the vehicle.
By 2:51 p.m., CHP updates noted approximately six vehicles had stopped along the right shoulder. A white vehicle was located in the desert area off the roadway and was not blocking traffic.
Units reported the heavily damaged vehicle was approximately 50 feet off the roadway, where it came to rest upright in the desert area off Rimrock Road.
The vehicle sustained major damage in the crash, including severe front-end destruction, a crushed roof, and extensive damage to the driver’s side.
Barstow California Highway Patrol Officer Alan Alston provided VVNG with the following information: “Based on the information currently available, a solo male driver was traveling on Rimrock Road at an apparent high rate of speed. For reasons still under investigation, the driver lost control of the vehicle, resulting in a crash.”
Alston said the driver sustained injuries; however, “at this time, the incident is not considered fatal.”
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Barstow CHP Station.
