Driver airlifted after crashing into utility pole on Phelan Road

PHELAN, Calif. (VVNG.com) — The driver of a vehicle that struck a wooden utility pole while driving along Phelan Road Friday afternoon was airlifted.
The crash was reported just before 5:00 p.m. Friday evening on Phelan Road just west of Fremontia Road.
The California Highway Patrol helicopter H80 landed at the scene to transport the patient to a trauma center.
According to a member of the Phelan Lowdown group on Facebook, the driver of the crashed vehicle lost control while attempting to pass a tractor-trailer traveling westbound on Phelan Road.
The vehicle “went into the other lane, flew through the air as he hit the dirt and smacked into the telephone pole head-on,” commented Tim Bartlett.
No other vehicles were involved in the collision and the crash is being investigated by the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.
