Do You Want to Be a Firefighter?

The San Bernardino County Fire Department seeks individuals with integrity and a desire to help others to join our dedicated team of firefighters as a Firefighter Trainee*, the entry-level to an exciting and rewarding career.  The Fire Department offers its trainees structured training programs and the opportunity to serve a supportive community with state of the art equipment, modern fire stations with the latest technology, and outstanding apparatus. Opportunity for career advancement exists as well as many specialty assignments, including urban search and rescue, hazardous materials, training officer, arson investigator, and fire prevention officer.

Firefighter Trainee* is the entry-level class in the Firefighter series. Trainees attend a paid San Bernardino County Fire Academy for approximately four (4) months, which includes coursework and practice in fire prevention and suppression, emergency medical training, and State/Local laws. The Academy consists of a 56-hour workweek; the $16.68 hourly salary is based on the 56 hour workweek for a monthly salary of approximately $4,047.  Upon successful completion of the Academy, Trainees will be promoted to Firefighter with an annual salary of $51,833-$66,335, based on a 56 hour workweek. Employees who are assigned full-time Firefighter Paramedic positions, are eligible to receive a differential.

*Classification, salary, and benefits pending Board of Supervisors approval.
