(VVNG.com)- Decklen James Maize has become not only a child to Carrie and James Maize but the tiny micro preemie that the whole Victor Valley community and beyond grew to love. Many followed his page, cheering for his milestones and praying through his setbacks. Everyone, was cheering for the tiny 14.5 ounce 10 inch baby boy who was born at Apple Valley’s St Mary’s Hospital.

Decklen’s due date was planned for September, and although Carrie had  hoped to carry him for 40 weeks she was prepared to possibly deliver early due to the early births of her previous children. Carrie was admitted to St. Mary’s Hospital in Apple Valley at only 21 weeks 2 days  of pregnancy, on Wednesday, May 7th as a result of her water breaking. The staff at St. Mary’s hospital was able to prevent the birth until Tuesday, May 13th at 22 weeks and 1 day of pregnancy Umbilical Prolapse caused an emergency situation resulting in James and Carrie having to make a very difficult decision. The staff gave them the choice of an emergency cesarean section that would give the baby boy a very slim chance of survival or letting him die without lifesaving efforts being made.

James and Carrie, who had  just suffered the loss of a stillborn baby girl named Luxx in August of 2013, decided to let Decklen fight for his life. The first hours were difficult, tiny Decklen nearly lost his life soon after his birth, but he kept showing his willingness to fight. The strength of this tiny baby boy captured the hearts of so many, even strangers, who grew to love him. His page, Prayers for Decklen James Maize has 23.564 followers from all around the world.

Decklen survived Kidney Failure, an infection of the abdomen as well as many other battles in his short life. People following his life cheered each time the tiny baby overcame these obstacles.  Decklen was growing well, was getting a beautiful color and was just a daily reminder that miracles do happen. He had reached the 1 pound 1 ounce mark, which was a cause of celebration to many praying for the baby boy.

Baby Decklen lost his fight for his life on Sunday, June 29th due to a heart blockage, causing his heart to stop. “They tried for an hour to save him, but sadly nothing worked. He fought so hard, I am truly blessed to be his mother. My sweet boy touched so many hearts and we couldn’t be more proud. He fought a huge battle that I wish he could’ve won,” said Carrie.

Decklen’s funeral service will be held on July 12th at 11:00a.m. at Desert View Funeral Home, 11478 Amargosa Road in Victorville. The family will also be having a barbeque after the services at Pebble Beach Park to celebrate their young warriors miraculous 6 ½  weeks of life. Carrie and James Maize would also like to thank the St. Mary’s staff and the doctor that cared for Decklen. “We are thankful that he was lucky enough to have Dr.Dodds and the amazing nurses he did. They did everything the could for him the entire time he was there and we could never thank them enough,” said Carrie.
