Deceased man found inside pick-up truck prompts homicide investigation

RED MOUNTAIN, Calif. — San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Homicide Detectives are investigating a death of a man found deceased inside his pick-up truck.

On Tuesday, May 8, 2018, at approximately 4:20 pm, fire personnel from the Kern County Fire Department responded to an unresponsive male, seated inside a pick-up truck in front of a residence in the 600 block of Red Mountain Road.

When fire personnel arrived, the victim, David Dodson, 41, of Red Mountain was found to be deceased with no visible signs of trauma, officials said.

“Fire personnel recognized the victim from a previous call the night before and requested a deputy respond to the location,” officials said in a news release.

Investigators from the Sheriff’s Specialized Investigations Division-Homicide Detail responded to conduct a death investigation.

“During the investigation, homicide investigators learned on Monday, May 7, 2018, at approximately 10:40 p.m., the victim was involved in an altercation in Kern County.  The victim had sustained a minor injury to his hand and refused medical-aid,” according to the release.

An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause and manner of death.
