Apple Valley, CA – Love to golf but hate waiting for an open tee time? Beginning immediately, a new program at the Apple Valley Golf Course eliminates this problem with a daily shotgun start.
“This new approach is intended to improve the playability of the golf course for the winter months,” explained Golf Pro Gary Matteson.
This is just one of many improvements that have been made over the last few months since Sierra Golf Management has assumed the operations at the course.
The program permits many groups of golfers to begin playing at essentially the same moment by assigning them to begin their games at holes throughout the course and then playing through their complete round of golf. For example, a golfer who begins on hole 6 will play through the course and end their game on hole 5.
The shotgun start will generally be grouped on either the front nine holes or the back nine holes, leaving the remaining holes available for players who happen to miss the scheduled shot gun start.
Rounds will begin at 9 a.m. or as soon as the on-site golf professional determines that the frost on the course has sufficiently thawed.
“With luck and time, we hope this program will prove successful enough that Sierra will be able to shot-gun start golf play on every hole each day,” said Assistant Golf Pro Russell Tracey. “Another benefit to this program is that it will permit those golfers who want to play two complete rounds of golf on these short winter days to do so. They should be able to complete the first 18 holes in short enough time to plan an additional 9 or 18 holes.”
