VICTORVILLE – (VVNG.com)- On Wednesday, October 22, 2014 the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department received the autopsy protocol from the Riverside County Coroner regarding the death of 36-year-old Dante Parker. The cause of death was determined to be acute phencyclidine (commonly known as the street drug PCP) intoxication with a noted significant condition of hypertensive cardiovascular disease. The manner of death was determined to be accidental.
According to a press release, on Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at approximately 4:47 p.m., deputies from the Victorville Police Department and fire personnel responded to the report of a suspicious subject attempting to break into an occupied residence in the 13000 block of Bucknell Court in Victorville. Upon arrival, the deputy was informed that the suspect had left the location. The reporting party identified the suspect, to the deputy, as the suspect was riding a bicycle away from the location. The deputy made contact with the suspect, who was later identified as Dante Parker. Parker appeared to the deputy to possibly be under the influence of an unknown substance. As the deputy was attempting to detain Parker for attempting to break into a residence, Parker became uncooperative and combative. During the physical altercation, the deputy deployed a taser multiple times, while trying to place Parker in custody. The deputy continued to struggle with Parker for several minutes until additional deputies arrived. After a second deputy arrived, the deputies continued to try and gain control of Parker for several minutes. Parker was eventually handcuffed and placed into the backseat of a patrol unit. Deputies observed Parker sweating profusely and appeared to have labored breathing. Medical aid was requested and arrived at the location. Parker was transported by ambulance to the Victor Valley Global Hospital for treatment.
Parker was conscious but incoherent while receiving medical treatment at the hospital; while receiving treatment Parker died.
The Sheriff’s Homicide Detail was requested and is conducting the death investigation. An autopsy will be performed by the Riverside County Coroner’s Office to determine the cause and manner of death. It is the policy of the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department to have Riverside County Coroner’s Office conduct the autopsy in all in custody death incidents.
