Dad calls 911 to say he killed his 43-year-old son

JOHNSON VALLEY, Calif. ( — A 72-year-old man from Johnson Valley called 911 and reported he had just killed his son two days before the Christmas holiday, officials said.

It happened in the 5900 block of Kickapoo Trail, in the remote desert community of Johnson Valley, located north of Highway 247.

According to a sheriff’s news release, on Monday, December 23, 2019, at 8:23 a.m., dispatch received a call from Keith Putz, Sr., reporting he had just killed his 43-year-old son, Keith Putz, Jr.

When deputies and medical personnel arrived they located Putz Jr. in front of a trailer on the property suffering from gunshot wounds, officials said.

Putz Sr., was transported to a local area hospital with chest pains and difficulty breathing. A shotgun was located inside his home, officials said.

Through investigation, homicide detectives learned on December 22nd, the son burglarized his dad’s home and in the early morning hours of December 23rd, he stole his dad’s vehicle and was involved in a pursuit with CHP; however, he was able to avoid arrest, officials said.

Putz Jr., returned to his father’s home upset because he had called law enforcement regarding the two prior incidents and the two were involved in an argument.

Sheriff’s officials said Putz Jr., threatened to his dad and after the altercation, Putz Sr., shot and killed his son. Officials said no arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing. “Upon completion, the report will be submitted to the District Attorney’s Office for review,” stated the release.
