PHELAN, Calif. (VVNG.com) Medical personnel performed life-saving measures on a man after he crashed into a high-tension utility pole Saturday morning.
The single vehicle crash involving a pickup truck was reported at 9:36 a.m. on Baldy Mesa Road and Smoke Tree Road in Phelan.
The driver and sole occupant of the silver Dodge Ram was traveling southbound on Baldy Mesa Road when for reasons still unknown he lost control of the truck. The vehicle veered into northbound lanes and collided with the utility pole, completely shearing it at the base.
According to witnesses, a nurse at the scene performed CPR on the driver until first responders arrived. Paramedics transported the driver to a local hospital, and his condition remains unknown.
High tension power lines landed in the roadway prompting authorities to shut down Baldy Mesa Road between Bonanza Road and Smoke Tree.
According to Southern California Edison’s outage map, 430 customers in the area remain without power. Employees are at the scene working on repairing the damaged utility poles and lines.
The California Highway Patrol is investigating the collision.
