
ADELANTO, Calif. (VVNG.com) An Adelanto man killed in a head-on collision Monday has been identified, the San Bernardino County Coroner’s Office said Tuesday.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash on Highway 395. He was identified as Gabriel Duran, 19, of Adelanto, according to the coroner’s office.
Duran was driving a 1999 Chevy pickup northbound on Highway 395 between Rancho Road and Adelanto Road. For unknown reasons, he turned into the southbound lane, Sheriff’s officials said.
The pickup truck collided head-on with a 2010 Toyota Tundra occupied by five people, the Tundra was towing a boat. The crash happened about 10:55 p.m. Monday night.
The impact caused both trucks to sustain major front-end damage and both vehicles came to rest in the southbound lane of the highway. Duran was the sole occupant of his truck.
Four of the five occupants in the Tundra required hospitalization. All four needing medical attention were transported to various trauma centers, which three were listed in critical condition and were airlifted by helicopter. Their condition remains unknown as of Tuesday morning.
The fifth occupant, a female passenger, was able to escape injury and consoled her family as they were being treated by medical personnel.
Highway 395 was reopened to traffic at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday morning, after being closed for nearly ten hours for the investigation.
