CHP reopens northbound I-15 in the Cajon Pass after hard closure

CAJON PASS, Calif. (VVNG.com) — The California Highway Patrol has reopened the northbound I-15 freeway after being shut down for most of the day.

Heavy snowfall in the Cajon Pass prompted CHP to detour traffic at Highway 138 and back onto the southbound I-15, making travel to the Victor Valley impossible.

Motorists that were stuck in the traffic reported waiting 4-6 hours in their vehicles unable to exit the freeway.

The southbound side of the freeway has been open for several hours.

As VVNG previously reported Highway 138 was closed at the 15 freeway at about midnight. As 2:30 pm, State Route 138 west of the I-15 remained closed.

Caltrans also advised conditions will be icy this afternoon and tonight into tomorrow.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) forecast, the temperature in Victorville is expected to drop to 29 degrees overnight.
