CAJON PASS, Calif: (VVNG.com)- The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) and the California Highway Patrol (CHP) REOPENED SOUTHBOUND Interstate 15 (I-15) through the Cajon Pass this morning at 10:45 a.m.
The #1 lane will remain closed from Oak Hill Road to Kenwood Avenue for Caltrans crews. All ramps will remain closed at Kenwood Avenue, Cleghorn Road, SR 138 and Oak Hill Road. Caltrans and CHP reopened Northbound I-15 late Wednesday evening.
Caltrans is working in cooperation with the Blue Cut Fire Unified Incident Command in the Cajon Pass.
The incident began at approximately 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 16, and closed Interstate 15 (I-15) from Interstate 215 (I-215) to Main Street in Hesperia in addition to State Route 138 (SR 138) from State Route 173 (SR 173) to State Route 18 (SR 18).
Caltrans crews and contractors are working to repair damaged guardrail and make other necessary repairs. Motorists are advised to follow all traffic commands from work crews, law enforcement and emergency personnel.
Caltrans expects traffic delays to be significant on I-15, I-215, and other routes leading up to and through the Cajon Pass. Motorists may use alternate routes.
The following detours will remain in place for motorists:
Eastbound I-10 to eastbound SR-62 to northbound SR-247 to westbound SR-18 to I-15 northbound.
Northbound I-5 to northbound SR-14 to eastbound SR-58 to I-15.
SR-18 south through Apple Valley, Lucerne Valley, and Big Bear to SR-330 south to I-210 (not recommended for trucks or oversized loads).
The following routes will remain closed until further notice:
SR-138 is closed from the Los Angeles County Line (SR 18) to SR-173.
SR-2 is closed from SR 138 to LA County Line.
