Driving down Bear Valley Road, signs of the Chipotle were seen being removed Thursday morning as employees were moving boxes from this location to another store on Main Street.
A spokeswoman with the food chain tells Victor Valley News the company announced closures of some under-performing locations just last month.
This included the Victorville location at 14120 Bear Valley Rd, in the same shopping center as Shakey’s Pizza Parlor and the newly opened Pita Barn Express.
An employee of the now-shuttered store, who wished to remain anonymous, said they had knowledge of the closure earlier this month, and that employees were given the option to transfer to one of the two remaining stores in the Victor Valley.
Jordan Gallegos, 18 of Victorville, said he was upset to hear that the store was closed and that customers had no prior knowledge.
“I visit this store at least four times a week, I had no idea they were closing,” Gallegos said. “I ate here because of the location, I won’t be going to the other store because it’s farther from me.”
In late June, the company announced plans to close 55-65 stores that were under-performing as they aim to make the remaining stores more “culturally relevant.”
“We are changing the cultural narrative around our brand,” CEO Brian Niccol said during a call with investors last month.
As part of those efforts to remain relevant, the company sponsored a Fortnite team through the esports group TSM and ran new ads during the NBA playoffs.
A sign on the door that read “Experience Closure,” offered customers where they can go for their burrito fix, which included two locations, 9770 Mariposa Road, in Hesperia and 19179 Bear Valley Road in Apple Valley.
The store officially closed it’s doors Wednesday, July 25, 2018.
