A child’s cry for help lands Apple Valley Woman in jail for abuse

APPLE VALLEY, Calif. ( Several children were removed from a home after a young child walked over to a neighbors residence and asked for help.

Cheryl Rodriguez Moreno, 40, from Apple Valley was arrested on Saturday, July 15, 2017 for willfully cruelty to a child, authorities said.

At 4:00 am, deputies responded to a residence on Rimrock Road East regarding a child who walked to a neighboring home and reported abuse.

“The victim fled her residence and told the reporting party she had been abused by the suspect, later identified as Cheryl Moreno,” stated a sheriff’s press release.

Officials said the victim had “significant injuries” and deputies were able to locate the juveniles home in the 15900 block of Rancherias Road in Apple Valley.

Deputies and detectives from the Apple Valley Station served a search warrant on Moreno’s residence and were able to sustain the allegations of abuse.

Children’s Family Services was called to the residence and took custody of the victim and several other juveniles in the home.

Moreno was arrested for P.C. 273A(A) – Willful cruelty to a child and was booked into High Desert Detention Center with bail set at $100,000. Moreno is scheduled to be arraigned in a Victorville courtroom on July 18, 2017.

Authorities did not specify the relationship between Moreno and the children.
