CERT volunteers recognized by City of Victorville

VICTORVILLE, Cailf. – Earlier this month, the City of Victorville recognized its first group of volunteers to complete the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training.

certThe 20-hour class, approved by the Federal Emergency Management Agency and taught by San Bernardino County Fire, helps volunteers attain the skills necessary to protect themselves as well as their families and neighbors in the event of an emergency.  Topics covered in the class include basic disaster preparedness, light search and rescue, medical operations and fire suppression.

“The City of Victorville’s CERT volunteers are true leaders,” said City of Victorville Emergency Management Coordinator, Dana Wellborn.  “We appreciate their hard work and commitment to preparedness for our community.”

“When disaster strikes, being prepared to do the greatest good for the greatest number of people is critical,” said Michael A. Ramirez, San Bernardino County Fire, OES .

Victorville’s first class of volunteer community emergency responders include Anastasia Escareno, Cheryl Shelby, Teresa Ellis, Monica Ellis, Janeth Ewoldt, Jewelysa Rios, Tricia Roth, Sara Cox,  Allison Taylor,  Lathresia Ballou, Don Ewoldt and Margarita Duran.
