Caretaker Arrested for Stealing $8,000 From Man in a Care Facility

APPLE VALLEY-(VVNG.com):  A 33-year-old Apple Valley man was arrested for allegedly stealing $8,000 from a victim that suffered from a traumatic brain injury. The suspect, Steven Lawrence Griffiths of Apple Valley was accused of creating and cashing a check with the victim’s account information.

The victim, according to San Bernardino County Sheriff’s officials was living at a care facility in Apple Valley when the theft occurred. The incident was reported on January 31st and lead deputies to conduct a thorough investigation. The deputies interviewed family members of the victim, employees at the care center and employees where the fraudulent check was cashed.

The evidence obtained during the investigation lead to the arrest of Griffiths on Friday, February 26th. Griffiths was booked into the High Desert Detention Center for theft by a caretaker and Making a fictitious check. Griffiths was released on his own recognizance and has no court dates scheduled at this time.

The case will be submitted to the Victorville District Attorney’s office for review and filing of charges.
