CAJON PASS, Calif. (VVNG.com) — A vegetation fire that broke out Monday afternoon at the base of the Cajon Pass was quickly contained after a coordinated response from multiple fire agencies.
The fire was reported at about 10:56 a.m. on Monday, May 18, 2026, in the 16000 block of Cajon Blvd. in Devore.
Initial reports indicated the fire was approximately a quarter acre with a moderate rate of spread and structures threatened. Within minutes, the fire grew to about 5 acres with the potential to spread to 10 to 15 acres, prompting a large response that included tankers and Air Attack.
According to a written statement from the San Bernardino County Fire Department, crews from San Bernardino County Fire, Cal Fire BDU, and the San Bernardino National Forest worked in unified command to stop the fire from spreading into the nearby river bottom.
Officials said the fire started near a home and was wind driven, damaging several storage buildings and sheds before spreading into nearby wildland vegetation.
“The rapid response and strong interagency coordination played a significant role in stopping the fire’s progression and limiting the overall impact of the incident,” according to the written statement.
The fire was ultimately held to 5.5 acres.
No injuries to civilians or firefighters were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by Cal Fire.
